Numerous Premier League clubs are in the market for a prolific goalscorer this summer, making Manchester United’s search considerably more difficult.
Indeed, the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool – if Darwin Nunez is sold – and Chelsea are all in pursuit of a new frontman, with the latter beating United to the signing of Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap this week.
The England U21 international had been deemed INEOS’ first-choice to lead Ruben Amorim’s line next season, but the side’s failure to qualify for Champions League football scuppered their pursuit.
Nonetheless, there are options available for United to now turn their attention to, albeit they are few and far between.
They remain linked with Napoli wantaway Victor Osimhen and ex-Amorim protegee Viktor Gyokeres, although he could well be on the move to the Gunners if Sporting Lisbon’s £60 million+ demands are met.
According to Mail Sport’s Nathan Salt, the Reds ‘have been offered’ a surprise candidate in the form of Goncalo Ramos.

Prior to his Paris Saint-Germain switch in 2023, initially on loan before it became a permanent deal for £54.6m, Ramos had been a concrete name on United’s shortlist before they ultimately pursued Rasmus Hojlund, who set them back £64m when he signed from Atalanta.
Ramos’ tenure at the Parc des Princes hasn’t played out the way he’d hoped, though, even if he does now have a Champions League, two Ligue 1 titles and a host of other silverware to his name.
He has hugely struggled to cement his place in Luis Enrique’s plans. In the attacker’s maiden season, he made 40 appearances with 21 coming from the off, and returned 14 goals and two assists.
In 2024/2025, Ramos’ sophomore campaign in France, his starts were reduced to just 16 in all competitions. He did, however, notch an improved 18 goals and six assists.
Whether United will take up the intermediaries on their proposal to bid for Ramos remains to be seen. It’ll also depend on whether the 23-year-old is willing to spend a year outside of Europe while adjusting to the demands of the English top flight.
For now, Salt claims the deal is ‘one to watch’.
