A series of expensive arrivals during the summer transfer window means that Thiago Motta has spent as much at Juventus in his first year than his predecessor Massimiliano Allegri did in four, and more than Antonio Conte did in three.

Juventus were the biggest spenders in the summer transfer window, bringing in Teun Koopmeiners from Atalanta for around €60m, Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa for €50m, Khephren Thuram for around €20m, plus a series of loans with future options or obligations to buy, including the likes of Nico Gonzalez, Michele Di Gregorio and Pierre Kalulu, which could bring the 2024-25 total spend beyond the €250m mark.

The Bianconeri also sanctioned a series of profitable sales, such as Matias Soule’s move to Roma, Dean Huijsen’s move to AFC Bournemouth, Federico Chiesa’s move to Liverpool and the double-deal that sent Samuel Iling-Junior and Enzo Barrenechea to Aston Villa.

All told, Juventus have raised just shy of €106m from player departures this season, which makes for a net spend of €143.5m according to Corriere dello Sport.

For reference, Conte had a total net spend of just over €110m in a three-year period between 2011 and 2014. He spent a total of €224m while in charge of the Bianconeri, a large chunk of which was spent in his first season.

Allegri, meanwhile, spent a total of €262m in charge of Juventus during his first spell with Juventus, almost half of which went on the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid in 2018.

Allegri’s net spend during his first Juventus spell came to a total of €149m, which means there is a difference of just over €5m between his first four full seasons and Motta’s maiden campaign.
