As part of OneFootball's collaboration series with Shoot Music we're interviewing an artist about their love of football and, over the next few weeks, it will be all about the World Cup.
This week it's acclaimed singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer and Australia fan, G Flip.
How have you enjoyed the World Cup so far?
Yeah I've loved it! I love sports so having matches on all day is really fun for me. I have it on in the background all day and I’m getting really into it.
How would you rate Australia's tournament up to this point?
I rate it! We made it through the group stages so I’m super stoked about that. The first game against Türkiye was an amazing way to start the World Cup for us. I was at an Aussie-owned-and-run pub in NYC going off and everyone back home on Australian soil was going off as well!!
Has one Australia player in particular stood out?
I really like Nestory Irankunda. He’s only 20-years-old and scored our first goal of the tournament! He’s also the youngest Socceroo to ever score at a World Cup. He’s just really fun to watch. Also our goalkeeper Patrick Beach, he’s had some amazing saves this World Cup. Beach being an Aussie with that last name is crazy fun.
What's been your biggest disappointment from Australia so far?
Not many disappointments thus far but it was pretty rough losing to the USA. Since I live between the US and Australia, I was hoping the Socceroos would pull that one out, especially because I am surrounded by Americans. It was still a fun game to watch and I love cheering for Aussies. Even in the loss I was proud of their efforts.
Will you get past Egypt and, if so, how far will Australia go?
I hope so!! I hope we make history and go as far as we can. I’m going to that game in person (which I’m really excited about!) so hopefully we can get the win and I’ll probably lose my voice from screaming! We've never won a knockout match at a World Cup, so honestly just getting that first one would feel massive. I’m cheering for them however far they go.
