Only one Barcelona midfielder is untouchable for Hansi Flick right now – Report | OneFootball

Out of all the positions at Barcelona right now, the midfield appears to be the most stacked. With so many options and versatile profiles, there is definitely a selection headache for Hansi Flick. Unfortunately, the season is now officially underway.

That means that the German tactician is under even more pressure to figure out his best team as soon as possible. For now, however, there appears to be only one guarantee in midfield for the Barça head coach.

No one except Pedri is a guarantee

Pedri, according to AS, is the only player who can be considered untouchable in midfield. The two remaining midfield spots remain up for grabs, and the truth of the matter is that several players are fighting for those two remaining spots.

Frenkie de Jong, Marc Casado, and Gavi are all seen as top competitors and great footballers. All three of them have the ability to play in the double pivot role alongside Pedri, but with only one spot there, Flick’s choice will need to be immaculate.

Some attacking options for Barcelona

Similarly, for the attacking midfield role, the options of Dani Olmo and Fermin Lopez appear to be the most obvious ones. While Gavi’s versatility allows him to be a contender for that position as well, the other two names mentioned are more naturally suited to the role.

There is also the case of Marc Bernal to keep in mind, as he is expected to return at some point in September. Once he does, and possibly makes a return to full fitness, there is no question that he will be a great option for the pivot role as well and will likely be competing for a place in the team.
