Chelsea are well informed on the situation surrounding River Plate sensation Franco Mastantuono according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues are gearing up for another busy summer and could fund their business by selling as many as seven or eight players.

Chelsea face a critical window with the club looking to sign a striker, centre back and right footed attacker to strengthen Enzo Maresca’s squad.

Chelsea well informed on Mastantuono

The Blues are in desperate need of proven players with leadership and experience to improve the first team and push the club back up the Premier League table.

The last thing supporters will want to see is links with more talented youngsters, but it appears Chelsea have identified another one in 17-year-old Mastantuono.

The teenager is said to have a £38m release clause in his current deal, whilst his contract with River Plate is due to expire in 2026.

Romano has now provided an update on the youngster who is attracting interest from a number of Europe’s top clubs.

“Real Madrid are not happy with the total package for Franco Mastantuono, and they’re still not proceeding,” he told his YouTube channel.

“Chelsea and Man United are well informed on the situation. So, it will be one to watch for sure, but it’s an open race.”

You can see why Chelsea would be interested in Mastantuono as he ticks the boxes for their recruitment model, but a member of the River Plate board has insisted he won’t be leaving this summer.

The Blues have heavily targeted the South American market under the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital ownership, and have two of the continents biggest talents arriving this summer in Estevao Willian and Kendry Paez.

Mastantuono became River Plate’s youngest ever scorer at 16 years old and will likely feature at the Club World Cup this summer, but Chelsea would be better off putting that £38m towards improving the first team instead of signing a player who may never play for the club.
