Opta predicts Sunderland to finish 12th in the Premier League on 51.15 points this season.
At St James Park, Regis Le Bris’ side made a nightmare start, Anthony Gordon punished a Luke O’Nien header to put Newcastle ahead inside 10 minutes.
Chemsdine Talbi equalised just before the hour, which unsettled the hosts. Sunderland pushed on to complete a league double and extend their unbeaten league derby run to 11 games.
Brian Brobbey struck in the final minute, beating Aaron Ramsdale at the second attempt and igniting wild celebrations in the away end. Results elsewhere left the Black Cats 11th, only three points off the European places.
Le Bris hailed a big achievement, accepted the concession came from their mistake and praised his side’s response. He said half-time allowed a realignment and that the second half showed what they wanted, adding the win meant a lot to players, staff and fans. He noted Newcastle’s high level after playing in the Champions League last week and said they want to keep improving.
The model projects Arsenal first on 84.77 points, Manchester City second on 74.45, Manchester United third on 66.06 and Aston Villa fourth on 65.04.
