Leeds United are on the brink of mathematical safety after a 3-1 win over Burnley and West Ham’s 3-0 loss at Brentford, and a refreshed Opta supercomputer projection has made a strong call on the Whites, according to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk.

The Burnley result moved Leeds nine points clear of third-bottom Tottenham, seven ahead of West Ham and four above Nottingham Forest, with all three holding a game in hand.

West Ham’s defeat on Saturday left them seven adrift with three to play. A loss to Arsenal on Sunday would confirm Leeds’ safety, and, given goal difference, even a draw would realistically be enough.

Crystal Palace also lost at Bournemouth, dropping below Leeds on goal difference.

Tottenham then won 2-1 at Aston Villa to climb out of the bottom three, and Forest beat Chelsea 3-1 to close to within one point. Spurs are now one point ahead of West Ham and six behind Leeds, whom they host on Monday night.

The model’s predicted finish has Arsenal top on 82 points, three clear, with Manchester City second on 79. Manchester United are third on 69 and Liverpool fourth on 63. Aston Villa are fifth on 62 and Bournemouth sixth on 56.
