Hull City are looking to complete a deal involving Huddersfield Town before the 3 February deadline
There is optimism that Hull City can sign Sorba Thomas from Huddersfield Town ahead of the deadline despite a recent stumbling block.
According to Hull Live, an agreement has been reached between the two clubs and discussions are ongoing amid a number of complications.
Thomas is currently on loan with Ligue 1 side Nantes, having joined the side in the summer after the Terriers’ relegation from the Championship.
The 25-year-old has contributed one goal and two assists from 16 appearances in the French top flight.
Hull have reportedly agreed a deal with Huddersfield for the signing of Thomas this January.
However, the League One side lack a recall clause in their deal with Nantes, who are happy to keep the forward for the rest of the campaign.
It is believed that the terms of a deal have been agreed between the two English sides, but a stumbling block has been reached due to the situation involving Nantes.
However, there is optimism that a deal can be concluded in time for the 3 February transfer deadline.
Ruben Selles will be keen to strengthen his Hull side before the market shuts, with the team in danger of suffering relegation to League One themselves.
The Tigers have already added Joe Gelhardt and Matt Crooks to the first-team squad this month.
Hull are currently 21st in the Championship table after 27 games played, but only a superior goal difference is keeping them from the bottom three.
Victory over Millwall at the weekend gave Selles his third win as manager from nine games since taking over for Tim Walter in December.
The Yorkshire outfit will be hoping he can steer the team clear of the relegation battle in the second half of the campaign.
Next up for Hull is a home clash against QPR on Tuesday evening in a 7.45pm kick-off.
There isn’t a whole lot Hull can do at this point because Huddersfield need to figure out a solution to freeing up Thomas from his loan deal with Nantes.
His arrival would be a smart addition for the Tigers, with his performances in Ligue 1 this season showing that he can even compete at a top flight level.
The 25-year-old has a lot of Championship experience, and knows what it takes to fight at both ends of the table.
He has proven himself as someone capable of creating chances consistently, which would add some greater depth to Selles’ attacking options.
