Rodri says he is hopeful the hamstring injury he suffered against Brentford is not a serious one.

The midfielder was forced off just after the 20-minute mark as Erling Haaland scored the only goal of the game in City’s win.

Man City boss Pep Guardiola says Rodri is hopefully only set for a short spell out.

“I remember the press conference [asking] why I substitute Rodri in Monaco,” Guardiola told BBC Sport.

“I would love to have Rodri every three days but after one year it happens all the time, it is so demanding. That is why we tried to be gentle, play 60-65 minutes but it cannot happen more.”

“It is muscular so two weeks or three weeks.

“Of course I don’t want to lose him even a little bit but it is a pity because he is such an important player. We tried to take care of him but it is what it is.”

Rodri also told the Manchester Evening News after the game that he does not think the injury is a serious one.

“I’m good,” he said. “I felt a little bit in the hamstring but it seems like it’s not that much. The important thing was the victory.

“I stretched the leg a little bit, a bit like in the Euros final. I stretched a little bit but it’s part of the process.

“I don’t feel that I feel tired muscle wise, I feel fresh but the most important thing is it’s not that big.

“It’s part of the process. The good thing about this is you get out, you don’t let the muscle stretch now. The good thing is the break so it will be even better in this sense to recover these days and hopefully I can be in the next game.”
