Otamendi ‘to wait’ on Benfica decision over future | OneFootball

Nicolás Otamendi has not yet made a final call on his future. The Benfica captain appears keen to remain in Lisbon, but is waiting on a decision from Rui Costa.

O Jogo reports that the 38-year-old could consider staying at Benfica next season due to several factors. He and his family feel settled in Lisbon, and he is highly valued at the club, with José Mourinho having praised him on several occasions.

His priority is his family’s wellbeing, and he views life in Lisbon as offering more tranquillity and safety than a possible switch to Buenos Aires if he accepted River Plate’s approach. For now, he is focused on giving his best against Nacional.

Despite interest and the millions on offer from Arab clubs, Otamendi believes his future could still lie with Benfica. He may be more inclined to extend by one season.
