Paris Saint-Germain secured a morale-boosting 1-0 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in their semi-final UEFA Champions League clash, thanks to a goal from Ousmane Dembele.
The French international attacker scored in the fourth minute, turning in a cross from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
The former Barcelona forward took his tally to 32 goals and 13 assists in 45 appearances.
Dembele had another decisive showing in North London, spearheading PSG past the Gunners and giving his side a slender advantage going into the second leg in Paris next week.
However, eyebrows were raised when the 27-year-old left the pitch in the 70th minute. Dembele’s departure immediately drew concern that he would be unavailable for the second leg.
Unfortunately for the Gunners, Dembele will likely be available on May 7. After the game, he said (via Fabrizio Romano), “I felt a little something, but it is okay. It is going to be fine!”
His manager, Luis Enrique, also assured fans that his talisman is doing well and should be ready to go at the Parc des Princes.
Dembele and his PSG teammates will be determined to complete the job they have started in North London.
If the Parisians play with the same cutting-edge they showed in London, Arsenal will face an uphill battle.
Arsenal have it all to do in the return leg. The Gunners had their moments in the first leg but could not get the win.
They must rediscover their spark to keep their Champions League dream alive.
The Emirates faithful will hope that the setback on home soil acts as a wake-up call. Arsenal need to summon resilience, sharpen their finishing, and find the belief that carried them this far.
With 90 minutes left to rewrite the narrative, the Gunners must turn the tide in Paris or risk seeing their European journey end in heartbreak.
