Ousmane Dembélé struck twice in PSG’s 2-0 victory at Liverpool on Tuesday night, marking each goal with a viral ‘phone call’ celebration.

According to L'Équipe, the gesture is thought to reference a personal exchange with influencer clyver_db earlier that day, rather than a taunt or hidden message. Clyver_db has tens of thousands of followers for short, football-centred comedy videos.

The pair are said to have spoken before kick-off. After that call, the influencer posted a video relaying Dembélé’s words, telling Paris fans to stay calm, claiming PSG’s demons had gone for good, and that they were on their way to the semi-final.

During both celebrations Dembélé mimed taking a call then hanging up, a nod to that conversation. After the match he shared a story of the moment, tagging his friend and writing “Alooooooo” with phone emojis. The result sent PSG into the last four of the Champions League.

Whether the routine endures or was a one-off remains to be seen, with Lyon visiting on Sunday at 20:45.
