Liverpool are in the market for a World Cup star. This one has certainly come out of nowhere.

Liverpool are searching for new players at the World Cup offers up the chance for some interesting names. Victor Munoz became the first summer signing, fresh out of Spain's squad.

But they're unlikely to stop there and an interesting name has now popped up as a possible arrival.

Journalist Pedro Almeida claims Liverpool have their sights set on Zion Suzuki of Parma. Suzuki was Japan's no.1 at the World Cup before they bowed out to Brazil.

It's one that brings about a few questions, admittedly. Firstly, do Liverpool actually need a goalkeeper? Having Suzuki as a 'top target' as Almeida claims would suggest that someone is leaving.

He's not, after all, going to move somewhere to be third choice. But we do question Giorgi Mamardashvili's future if Alisson Becker is to remain at the club.

Mamardashvili certainly arrived to take over the no.1 shirt but Alisson will stick around for at least another year. It may well be that the Georgian doesn't fancy another year sitting on the bench.

But Suzuki might. Or at least, he might see it as a great chance to establish himself at a major club ahead of that goalkeeper role opening up.

Perhaps he can oust Mamardashvili and take the no.1 shirt for himself? That would certainly be the thinking.

But we do question whether he's good enough for that. Suzuki was okay at the World Cup, but certainly not one who set the world alight.

Parma did boast a good defensive record, though. They 'only' conceded 46 goals, which was far, far fewer than the teams around them - 17 fewer than Torino, who finished one above.

Perhaps, then, Suzuki knows how to be a part of a solid defence, is a cheaper option, and one happy to play backup. If so, this one might make a bit of sense.
