Oxford United have been placed under a temporary transfer embargo by the English Football League that means they will be unable to make any new signings this summer.
The U's were relegated from the Championship last season and were then able to bring in Aaron Ramsey as their coach the 2026/27 campaign, however their new manager will have to work with what he has currently got for now.
The club were found not to be compliant with the EFL's salary cost management protocols which relate to spending limits based on club turnover.
"Following relegation from the Championship, and with rule changes removing the staggered approach to equity injections, the Club have been working to align their financial position with the reporting requirements of League One," Oxford United said in a statement.
"With a commitment from shareholders to increase investment into Oxford United over the coming months, along with measures to reduce overall costs, the Club will be compliant and in a strong position ahead of the January transfer window.
"The Club have an extremely competitive squad already in place and the focus this summer will be on retaining those players that give Aaron Ramsey and his staff the strongest group possible to deliver success on the pitch this season."
Oxford United are set to begin their 2026/27 campaign on August 8th away to Leyton Orient in the Carabao Cup before hosting MK Dons on the first day of the League One season.
