Vasco da Gama face their biggest match of the year with a clear concern up front, as captain Pablo Vegetti is on an eight-game drought, equalling his worst run since arriving at São Januário.

According to PaponaColina, Vasco seek balance for a Copa do Brasil semi-final against Fluminense. Vegetti’s last goal came in the October win over Bragantino, since then the attack has faded and the team have won only once.

Across his last 17 appearances, he has scored only one goal. For a player used to deciding games and wearing the armband, that run heaps pressure in a season-defining week.

Even so, the Argentine retains credit. He is Vasco’s leading scorer this season with 26, and he shares the club’s league tally lead with Rayan on 14 each.

On Sunday against Atlético-MG he was taken off in the first half for tactical reasons after a sending-off, leaving the pitch furious, kicking cups and throwing boots. Coach Fernando Diniz minimised the incident, but will need to restore his striker’s calm and confidence before Thursday at the Maracanã.
