Manolo González was celebrated by Espanyol supporters at RCDE Stadium after the season finale, with Pace and Monchi on the pitch to witness it. The match against Real Sociedad finished 1-1.

According to AS, president Alan Pace and new general sporting director Ramón Rodríguez ‘Monchi’ watched from the owner’s private box alongside Fernando Navarro and Miguel Ángel Gómez, appointed this week as director of football and head of recruitment, before heading down to the turf. They witnessed in person one of the season’s most iconic moments.

Earlier the spotlight had rested on Carlos Romero, who will return to Villarreal next season after two fine loan campaigns at Espanyol. Following the players’ lap of honour, attention shifted to the head coach.

Chants rolled from the Grada Canito as fans called his name. Relieved of the strain of the second half of the season, González sprinted to the stand, clambered in among the crowd and addressed them with a megaphone.

It capped his third campaign in charge, comprising one promotion and two hard-fought survivals, the latter triggering an automatic renewal until 30 June 2027.

Even so, his future remains unresolved, pending Monchi’s official presentation on Tuesday.
