Crystal Palace put in a fine display at Selhurst Park against Italian side Fiorentina and will take a three-goal advantage to Florence.
Oliver Glasner gave Jean-Philippe Mateta his first start since January and the striker certainly caused the Italian defence problems, heading just wide with 10 minutes gone in the game.
The home side were awarded a penalty in the 23rd minute when Dodô was judged to have fouled Evann Guessand. VAR checked and agreed with the on-field decision resulting in Mateta sending former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea the wrong way to make it 1-0.
Just eight minutes later, the Eagles doubled their advantage. Daniel Muñoz acrobatically flicked the ball on for Mateta whose shot was saved at point-blank range from De Gea. However, there was nothing he could do about Tyrick Mitchell coming in on the rebound and finishing.
Palace sensed that they could do a lot of the hard work in London ahead of the second leg and should have had more on the night. Indeed, Mateta nodded another headed effort just wide with 10 minutes left to go on the clock.
The Eagles eventually got the third goal they deserved in the 90th minute after a whipped in cross from the right was headed down by Ismaila Sarr from close range to make it 3-0 on the night.
It would take something remarkable from Fiorentina to deny Palace a Conference League semi-final spot now.
