Palestra: Atalanta ‘to seek’ Man City and Newcastle bidding war as Inter ‘to include’ Cocchi | OneFootball

Inter are pushing to sign Italy international Marco Palestra and have tabled an opening offer worth €40 plus add-ons.

Corriere dello Sport says Atalanta have rejected the proposal and are seeking a €50m fee.

Sky and Corriere della Sera report that Inter want to lower the asking price by adding 19-year-old left-back Matteo Cocchi to the deal.

Cocchi made his senior Inter debut under Cristian Chivu in 2025-26, making three first-team appearances.

Corriere dello Sport adds that Atalanta are mindful of interest from Manchester City and Newcastle and hope for a bidding war this summer.

The newspaper also reports that Newcastle are ready to match the price, but Palestra is not fully convinced about St James' Park because there will be no European football in 2026-27.

Manchester City will soon appoint Enzo Maresca as their new coach and have not yet made a formal approach for Palestra.

Inter plan to part-fund any move by selling Denzel Dumfries, who is set to join Real Madrid for €20m.
