Spurs fight back after early Brighton goals

The game began in disastrous fashion for Tottenham as the hosts struck twice within the opening 31 minutes.Yankuba Minteh opened the scoring before Yasin Ayari added a second to leave Spurs with plenty of work to do.

Tottenham managed to find a lifeline before the interval when Richarlison scored, offering the visitors some hope heading into half-time.

After the restart, Spurs pressed for an equaliser, with substitute Xavi Simons proving lively.

The midfielder saw Bart Verbruggen deny him with a strong save in the 64th minute, before he dragged a chance wide only four minutes later.

Tottenham’s persistence eventually paid off in the closing stages when Mohammed Kudus delivered a cross that Jan Paul van Hecke turned into his own net.

Palhinha shares his honest verdict

Speaking after the match to Sky Sports, Palhinha admitted his disappointment, insisting Tottenham had done enough to win.“I think we leave this stadium really sad, because in my opinion, we completely deserved to win the game.”

The Portuguese midfielder reflected on how Spurs began strongly, creating several chances before conceding twice against the run of play.“I think we started really well and created a lot of chances. Arriving to the last third in good shape. We suffered two goals against the run of play.”

Despite the comeback, Palhinha felt there was more his side could have achieved.“It is not easy losing 2-0 away, in a tough stadium like this against a good team. We leave a bit with a feeling off we could’ve done more.”

Tottenham will now shift focus to the EFL Cup, where they face Doncaster Rovers on 24 September in the third round.
