Palmeiras have allowed left-back Piquerez to travel to Uruguay to complete treatment on his right ankle with the national team. The 27-year-old is already in Montevideo.

According to Globo.com, he will not play again for Palmeiras until after the World Cup. Before the tournament, Palmeiras face Junior Barranquilla on Thursday in the Libertadores and Chapecoense on Sunday in the Brasileirão.

The defender has been sidelined since late March, when he injured his right ankle in a Uruguay friendly against England.

He underwent surgery and had been working with the ball alongside Palmeiras’ academy players, training separately from the main group.

Inside the club he has drawn praise for strictly following the Health and Performance unit’s guidance, and he has responded well, recovering faster than expected.
