Palmeiras returned to work at the Academia de Futebol on Thursday morning, the day after a 2-1 win over Fluminense in Barueri, São Paulo, in the Campeonato Brasileiro. They remain top on 10 points and now turn to a Paulista semi-final against São Paulo on Sunday at 20:30.
According to Nosso Palestra, players who logged more than 45 minutes followed the club’s recovery plan, while the rest worked on circulation and final-third scenarios under the Portuguese staff.
The tie will be played at Arena Crefisa Barueri, where Palmeiras have never lost a Choque-Rei, with two wins and one draw, and they are nine unbeaten there in total.
Right-back Agustín Giay, introduced for Khellven at the start of the second half, underlined the value of another home victory and said the Brasileiro is long and attritional, so the team must stay strong.
This is a repeat of last year’s semi, when Palmeiras won 1-0 at Allianz Parque, Raphael Veiga scoring after Vitor Roque was fouled for a penalty. In this year’s Paulista, the Alviverde lifted the Troféu Choque-Rei after a 3-1 win in the classification phase, with goals from Mauricio, Flaco López and Khellven.
