Seven Palmeiras players began the 2026 World Cup with their national teams, and as the final group games loom they find themselves in very different positions. According to Nosso Palestra, Argentina and Colombia are close to progressing, Paraguay still need a positive result, and Uruguay are in the toughest spot among the club’s representatives.
Paraguay recovered from a 4-1 opening defeat to the United States by beating Türkiye in round two, which keeps them alive before meeting Australia. Gustavo Gómez is the side’s only undisputed starter and has played all 180 minutes.
Maurício came off the bench against the United States and scored, then was unused against Türkiye. Ramón Sosa also featured as a substitute in the opener, did not score, and stayed among the reserves in the second game.
Uruguay have drawn their first two, against Saudi Arabia and Cape Verde, and go into Spain under pressure. They still have a route to the next stage, but early elimination remains a real risk. Joaquín Piquerez and Emiliano Martínez have yet to play.
Holders Argentina won their first two fixtures and are close to sealing top spot, with only Jordan to come. Striker Flaco López is still waiting for his first minutes.
Colombia are also well placed to qualify. Jhon Arias started both matches, against Congo and Uzbekistan, and has been influential. His form could be decisive as they look to confirm a place in the next round and chase a first title.
