A Palmeiras councillor has lost his damages claim against club president Leila Pereira over a row at the club’s Conselho Deliberativo meeting on 16 December 2025.
According to Nosso Palestra, Judge Fernando Salles Amaral of the first Court of the Special Civil Court, JEC Central de Vergueiro in São Paulo, dismissed José Corona Neto’s action for R$ 20,000 in moral damages.
Corona Neto said he was insulted during the ordinary session after he criticised the club’s sporting management and investments in football. He alleged Pereira responded with personal attacks, calling him a coward, a failure and unbalanced.
The judge found the dispute to be a mutual altercation in a political setting, amounting to mere annoyance rather than harm that creates a private law duty to compensate.
The decision can be appealed. Meeting minutes record Corona Neto’s criticisms of performance, spending on signings and the club’s political direction, followed by Pereira’s response containing the language he later cited in court.
