Palmeiras beat Fluminense 2-1 at Barueri on Wednesday to rise from second to first in the Brasileirão.

In the ninth minute Vitor Roque converted a penalty after he was fouled by Fábio. Moments later, Allan doubled the lead with a crisp finish from the right side of the box (13.), assisted by José Manuel Lopez.

Luciano Acosta pulled one back before the break with a neat strike from the centre of the area (40.).

After the restart, Jefferson Savarino rattled the crossbar and Carlos Miguel made six saves as Flu pushed for an equaliser. The visitors dominated the ball and tallied 18 attempts, sustaining pressure with 11 corners.

Changes brought fresh threat for Verdão. After Jhon Arias entered, Roque struck the bar on the break (68.) and Ramón Sosa then hit the post (72.).

A long first half stoppage followed Facundo Bernal's injury, with 10 minutes added before the interval.

Verdão remain unbeaten after four league games. Flu drop from fourth to fifth. Next, Verdão host São Paulo in the Paulista semi-finals, while Flu host Vasco da Gama in the Carioca semi-finals.
