Palmeiras have condemned the STJD’s complaint against Mauricio as an affront to the club and to refereeing, the club said in a statement.

The incident occurred in the Campeonato Brasileiro win over Vitória on Wednesday 29, when Mauricio was shown a yellow card in the 27th minute by referee Alex Gomes Stefano after an elbow on defender Cacá.

The STJD’s second disciplinary commission has charged the midfielder under Article 254 of the CBJD, with a hearing scheduled for Tuesday, 4 August, at 10:00 Brasília time.

Officials issued only a yellow card for the clash, after VAR’s check, and the incident has divided specialist opinion.

The episode has also sharpened debate over consistency, with comparisons to similar fouls by Pulgar and Raniele in the same round that did not lead to charges, and to decisions involving Flamengo and Corinthians players that were left to stand.

Palmeiras also referenced previous cases affecting the club, including what it views as a disproportionate punishment for coach Abel Ferreira and recent suspensions for Allan and Paulinho, and demanded respect for institutional limits.
