Palmeiras have left Libra, citing disagreements over the bloc’s role. The club said in a statement that the move does not mean joining any other association and that it will now monitor steps towards a possible single league under the CBF.
Its note recognised gains secured by the group, including the current television rights deal, but argued that selfish, at times predatory, conduct had blocked the cohesion needed for a shared model of management and governance.
The decision came about an hour after Flamengo and Libra agreed to end their dispute over television contract values.
Under the agreement with Globo, audience figures account for 30% of the total fixed remuneration. The broadcast rights deal runs until 2029.
Recent months have seen friction among member clubs over how Brasileirão television revenue is divided. Palmeiras moved to take legal action against Flamengo after a R$ 77 million tranche was blocked following a Rio de Janeiro court decision in the latter’s favour. A ruling in November released part of the sum.
At the time, Palmeiras described Flamengo’s approach as predatory and intended to financially asphyxiate other Libra clubs to extract further individual benefits. It remains open to dialogue and willing to support measures to deliver the structural progress Brazilian football requires.
