Palmeiras have asked the STJD for a suspensive effect after Abel Ferreira was handed an eight-match ban. According to Globo.com, the coach will face a full-court hearing next Wednesday regardless of that request.
The club filed an appeal on Thursday and is seeking the measure in both cases so Abel can remain on the touchline while he awaits judgment.
The sanction stems from two separate dismissals in the Campeonato Brasileiro, against Fluminense and São Paulo, totalling eight matches, two for the red versus Fluminense and six for conduct in the Choque-Rei. Abel has already served two automatically, leaving six if the ruling stands.
The STJD’s prosecutors cited referee Anderson Daronco’s match report from the São Paulo derby, which states the Portuguese called him a coward. A lip reading video was also submitted, indicating additional insults aimed at the officials.
He was charged under article 258 of the Brazilian disciplinary code, covering actions contrary to sporting ethics. The case highlighted repeat offences, with 20 STJD cases since his arrival in October 2020.
Palmeiras face Corinthians on Sunday in the Dérbi Paulista, part of the 11th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro, at 18:30. The club considers his presence on the touchline important.
