Palmeiras set to offload left-back with €100m release clause

One of the defensive standouts in the youth categories of Palmeiras, 17-year-old left-back Marcus Vinnicius, is close to leaving Verdão and returning to Goiás, the club where he began his development.

Palmeiras will retain 30% of Marcus's economic rights in a future transfer. NOSSO PALESTRA has learned that internally, the left-back is seen as a player with good potential for financial return, especially because he plays in a scarce position and has offensive characteristics, in addition to being praised for his exemplary behavior and the maturity he has developed throughout his training.

The idea is to build something similar to the departures of Breno Cascardo and Gustavo Mancha, who were transferred to América-MG and Fortaleza, respectively, and generated financial returns for Verdão after being transferred abroad. He had been at the club since 2022, when he joined the U-15 team, and was currently with the U-20s.

The 18-year-old player commented on the moment and projected the next steps of his career.

“There are still a few details that my agent, Max, is finalizing, but the path should be Goiás, the club where I started and for which I have enormous affection. If everything goes well, I’ll return motivated, prepared, and more experienced. Being close to my family will help me a lot, and the project presented by Goiás gave me the confidence that this is where I should be right now,” he stated.

For Palmeiras, Marcus played 143 matches, most of them as a starter, and won important titles such as the 2024 Ecuador Youth Cup U-18, the 2023 U-17 Brazilian Championship, the 2023 CEE Cup U-19, and the 2022 U-15 Paulista. He highlights the impact that his time at the club had on his journey.

“I arrived at Palmeiras as a boy and I can say I’m leaving as a man. It’s been four years of growth in every sense. I’m grateful to João Paulo for bringing me to the club and to all the professionals who contributed to my development. It’s no coincidence that this is the best youth academy in Brazil. Palmeiras will always be part of my story and in my heart,” he said.

Marcus also experienced the professional environment and shared the youth setup with talents who now play at the highest level, such as Estêvão, currently at Chelsea.

“At Palmeiras, the youth teams train at the Football Academy, and that brings us very close to the professional squad. I had the opportunity to take part in several activities with the squad led by Abel, and it was an incredible experience. The coaching staff talked a lot with us from the youth teams, and players like Raphael Veiga, Gustavo Gómez, and Richard Ríos were always very approachable and gave us confidence. In the youth setup, it was special to play with Estêvão, who is now a star for the Brazilian National Team. He is a friend and deserves everything he has achieved,” he emphasized.

Seen as a prospect

In 2024, the left-back signed his first professional contract with Alviverde until June 30, 2026, with a multi-million euro release clause: 100 million euros (about R$ 607 million at the current exchange rate).

Marcus arrived at Palmeiras in 2022 after having problems signing his first development contract at Goiás. The player’s agent then went to the market and received offers from Atlético-MG, Flamengo, Internacional, and Palmeiras. João Paulo Sampaio, coordinator of Palmeiras’ youth academy, was instrumental in convincing the youngster to choose Alviverde.
