Palmeiras trio out of World Cup, club expect return next week | OneFootball

Paraguay were eliminated by France with a 1-0 defeat on Saturday, leaving Palmeiras trio Gustavo Gómez, Mauricio and Ramón Sosa out of the World Cup.

According to Nosso Palestra, Palmeiras expect the Paraguayan trio to return next week for medical tests before rejoining the squad for the rest of the season.

Gómez started and completed the match, Mauricio came on during the second half, and Sosa was an unused substitute.

After the game, Gómez said he was proud of his team-mates and of Paraguay’s campaign, adding that they played to represent their country and must keep working to raise the level of Paraguayan football.

Palmeiras have seven players at this World Cup, staged in the United States, Canada and Mexico, spread across four national teams. Five are already out, namely Mauricio, Gustavo Gómez and Ramón Sosa with Paraguay, plus Emiliano Martínez and Joaquin Piquerez with Uruguay.

Flaco López with Argentina and Jhon Arias with Colombia remain in the tournament and could meet in the quarter-finals.
