Palmeiras youngster hails debut for Portuguese club: ‘Job well done’

The last weekend was remarkable for Kaique, a goalkeeper revealed in Palmeiras' youth categories. The 22-year-old goalkeeper made his debut for CD Nacional in the 1-0 victory over Braga, away from home, in the Portuguese Championship. This was only the team's second triumph at the opponent's home, but for the young Brazilian loaned by Verdão, the game had an even more special flavor.

Very happy to debut winning and without conceding goals. It's a feeling of duty accomplished, as these points will be fundamental at the end of the championship. It was the second time the club won at this stadium and it's significant to be part of it. I aim to play as many games this season, have continuity and, of course, accumulate the highest number of points with Nacional

Before heading to Portugal, the goalkeeper renewed his contract with Palmeiras until 2030. Formed in the youth categories of Verdão, he played 77 matches and won eight titles for the club, in addition to lifting the South American U-20 trophy with the Brazilian National Team.

Kaique is already in his second experience in Portuguese football, after defending Farense in the 2024/2025 season. Now, he says he feels much more adapted to the European style of play.

My adaptation was much quicker here because I didn't have an injury at the beginning of the season, as it was last year. I ended up being out for three months. Besides, I believe I have matured in every sense, with the understanding of European football. I am much more prepared to help Nacional achieve the season's objectives

And now?

With fewer games compared to the opponents, the team currently occupies the second place, with 52 points, behind Flamengo, with 54, and ahead of Cruzeiro, with 50. Cariocas, who will end the round with one more game compared to Palmeiras, and Minas Gerais, with two more games, face each other this Thursday (2), at Maracanã.

Verdão returns to the field for the Brazilian Championship next Sunday (5) against São Paulo, at Morumbis, for the 27th round of the national competition. The ball rolls at 4pm (Brasília time).
