Winners

Pape Gueye (Senegal)

Pape Gueye delivered one of the most devastating substitute appearances of the tournament, scoring twice and providing an assist within 25 minutes of entering the pitch. His introduction at 57 minutes sparked Senegal's second-half explosion against ten-man Iraq.

His first goal arrived just two minutes after coming on, a curling left-foot shot from the edge of the area that found the far corner for 3–0. He struck again at 71 minutes with a powerful first-time left-foot finish, assisted by Iliman Ndiaye, before teeing up Ndiaye for the fifth goal at 82 minutes.

Gueye's cameo transformed a nervy one-goal advantage into a comprehensive victory that revived Senegal's tournament hopes. His two goals and one assist directly accounted for three of the five strikes that swung Senegal's goal difference from minus three to plus two.

Iliman Ndiaye (Senegal)

Iliman Ndiaye combined superbly with Pape Gueye after both entered at 57 minutes, contributing a goal and an assist in what became an irresistible second-half surge. His creativity and directness caused constant problems for Iraq's exhausted defence.

Ndiaye provided the headed layoff that set up Gueye's second goal at 71 minutes, then scored himself at 82 minutes with a powerful right-foot shot from the edge of the area into the bottom corner. His dribbling created further chances, including a shot that went wide after beating his marker in stoppage time.

The partnership between Ndiaye and Gueye proved decisive in turning a precarious lead into a statement victory. Their three combined goals in the final 30 minutes demonstrated the depth available to coach Pape Thiaw when fresh legs exploited a tiring ten-man opposition.

Loser

Rebin Sulaka (Iraq)

Rebin Sulaka's sending-off at 13 minutes fundamentally altered the match and left Iraq facing an impossible task for the remaining 77 minutes. His dismissal came via VAR review after he pulled back Sadio Mané at the edge of the penalty area.

Initially shown yellow for the professional foul, the decision was upgraded to red after video review determined Sulaka denied an obvious goalscoring opportunity as the last defender. He had made a positive early contribution, blocking Idrissa Gueye's shot in the third minute, but that was quickly forgotten.

Iraq showed organisation and effort before halftime despite the numerical disadvantage, conceding only once before the interval. However, the red card eventually proved insurmountable as Senegal's substitutes overwhelmed a defence that had been covering extra ground for over an hour, with four second-half goals completing the rout.
