Paquetá in tears as Flamengo agree deal with West Ham | OneFootball

Flamengo made the biggest investment in their history at the start of 2026 by bringing Lucas Paquetá home. The midfielder was moved to tears after learning a deal had been agreed with West Ham.

Globo’s documentary ‘Convocadas’ captured the moment his wife, Duda Fournier, learned of the agreement and rang him, and Paquetá broke down in a car.

In May 2024 the FA charged the midfielder over alleged involvement in a betting scheme, and its report alleged he manipulated results in four Premier League matches.

The FA sought a ban, but the Regulatory Commission found there was not sufficient evidence. With the decision announced on 31 July 2025, he returned to action and the case was closed.

Even after being cleared, he felt uncomfortable staying in English football and asked to return to Flamengo. After weeks of talks, the club paid 42 million euros, R$ 245.6 million, to West Ham in January.

He signed a five-year contract to 2031. Since his comeback he has played 24 matches and scored eight goals, form that earned a 2026 World Cup call-up.
