Flamengo beat Botafogo 2-1 to reach the semi-finals, with Paquetá outstanding. According to Globo.com, he scored his first goal since returning and Pulgar netted the winner.
Paquetá opened with a low shot from the edge after Bruno Henrique’s lay-off. Botafogo equalised when Barboza headed over the advanced Andrew. Pulgar then finished at the back post after Vitão’s corner flick, Neto saving his first header before the rebound.
Vitão influenced both goals and added two tackles. Andrew was at fault for the equaliser. Emerson Royal was erratic in possession but busy in attack, and Danilo led touches and passing.
Ayrton Lucas defended well despite a late scare. Carrascal roamed but created little, and Plata offered minimal threat. Arrascaeta was neat yet quiet, while Bruno Henrique’s main impact was assisting Paquetá before going off.
From the bench, Luiz Araújo injected pace on the right and Everton increased threat, finishing with three shots. Evertton Araújo completed all his passes and tightened the press. Samuel Lino left on 59 minutes after a wasteful display that drew boos, and Léo Pereira arrived too late to rate.
Head coach Filipe Luís’s side still struggled to impose its model. Physically Flamengo looked sharper, yet dominance proved elusive, though the main objective was achieved.
