FIFA is to open an investigation into the conduct of several Argentina players and assistant coach Roberto Ayala after their 1-0 extra-time defeat to Spain in the World Cup final, according to L'Équipe. A prosecutor responsible for disciplinary and ethical matters has been appointed.
During the match, Enzo Fernandez was sent off for a late tackle on Spain's Pau Cubarsí in second-half stoppage time.
After Spain secured their second world title, Leandro Paredes confronted Eric Garcia, pushing him and taking hold of his throat. He then grappled with Gavi, taking him to the ground, grabbing his substitute bib and making contact with his face.
Defender Nahuel Molina also clashed with Spain captain Rodri. The behaviour of assistant coach Roberto Ayala will also be examined.
The inquiry will also consider Argentina's conduct during the post-match ceremonies, with some players reportedly turning their backs during the trophy presentation.
