Liam Rosenior hoping to repeat Enzo Maresca’s trick as he faces up to Luis Enrique

Chelsea will reacquaint themselves with their old Club World Cup foes as they face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League round of 16 on Wednesday night.

The Blues stunned the European champions PSG 3-0 in July to claim the world champion crown.

And there was animosity aplenty after that match as a scuffle broke out at full time, during which Luis Enrique struck Joao Pedro, and the two sides have a fresh opportunity to settle their differences over two legs this month in what will surely be the toughest test of Liam Rosenior’s managerial tenure so far.

Chelsea eased through the league phase despite dropping points to Bayern Munich, Qarabag and Atalanta, securing automatic progression while PSG were made to contest a play-off round following a slow start to the competition.

They made hard work of Monaco there, withstanding a nervy four-goal second leg to ensure their progression.

PSG vs Chelsea team news

Chelsea have some nagging injury headaches coming into this match, chief among them Estevao. The exciting young winger has missed three matches since tweaking his hamstring, but is back on the grass and pushing to be involved in the French capital.

Another Chelsea winger with a faulty hamstring is Jamie Gittens. He is closing in on a return to full fitness, but this match is expected to come too soon for him to be involved.

Levi Colwill caps a relatively manageable list of injury absentees. He has not appeared for Chelsea since the Club World Cup final, after which he ruptured his ACL in training.

For PSG, metronomic midfielder Joao Neves is a doubt with an ankle injury, while Fabian Ruiz is also sidelined with a knee problem. Youngsters Quentin Ndjantou and Senny Mayulu are both set to miss out, too.

Former Bournemouth man Ilya Zabarnyi will likely feature at the back for the Ligue 1 leaders, while a formidable front three of Desire Doue, Bradley Barcola and Kvicha Kvaratskhelia will lead the offensive.

PSG vs Chelsea prediction

If any one factor decides this match, it may be the relative freshness of either squad.

PSG have not played since March 6 - a five day layoff come matchday - and Luis Enrique managed to rest several of his star players in that defeat by Monaco.

Chelsea, meanwhile, played 120 minutes on Saturday night as they laboured to an FA Cup win over Wrexham.

Rosenior was forced to deploy some key players in that match as he looked to kill the game off, and the Blues now need to travel overseas for this match. They may well pay the price for their leginess in a match where they will need to be at their very best.

PSG to win, 2-1.
