Paris police will mount a major security operation for Thursday’s World Cup quarter-final between France and Morocco, with road closures, reinforced checks and monitoring of gathering spots from the 22:00 kick-off.
According to L'Équipe, the police prefecture detailed the plan on Wednesday. Place de l’Étoile and neighbouring streets will be closed to all vehicles from 22:00 on Thursday until around 5:00 on Friday. The rest of the Champs-Élysées will remain open.
Officers will be deployed at key screening areas, including the pedestrianised zones in the Marais and La Roquette, and across the public transport network. A specific anti-crime operation will accompany the deployment.
City Hall will exceptionally extend terrace hours for cafés, bars and restaurants until 2:00, allowing supporters to prolong the night.
Paris is braced for heavy footfall as fans converge on the capital for the quarter-final.
