Juventus will look to maintain their strong domestic form when they travel to Parma on Sunday evening, looking to pile pressure on the top spots in Serie A’s title race by closing the points gap with the league leaders Inter Milan.
Parma continue to battle significant injury problems as they prepare to face in-form Juventus. Goalkeeper Zion Suzuki remains sidelined with a broken hand, not expected to return until mid-February, leaving Edoardo Corvi between the sticks. The defensive unit continues to suffer, with Lautaro Valenti unavailable due to a muscle injury, and Abdoulaye N’Diaye marked as doubtful following a similar complaint.
Central midfielder Matija Frigan will miss the clash through an early-March injury to his cruciate ligament, whilst fellow midfielder Hernani is sidelined with an ankle problem that has prevented him from being available for selection.
The hosts’ offensive arsenal relies heavily on Mateo Pellegrino, who has scored six goals this season—accounting for 43 per cent of Parma’s total goal tally. Jacob Ondrejka will partner him in attack as the Emilia-Romagna club seeks to exploit any defensive weaknesses.
On a positive note, midfield reinforcements Hans Nicolussi Caviglia and Franco Carboli have recently arrived on loan and could feature in some capacity depending on tactical requirements.
Dusan Vlahovic continues his recovery from an adductor injury and will not feature in this fixture. Defender Daniele Rugani remains unavailable due to a calf problem, while long-term casualty Arkadiusz Milik continues his rehabilitation away from match action.
The positives significantly outweigh these concerns, with winger Kenan Yildiz returning to the starting lineup following his starring role in last week’s emphatic victory over the reigning Serie A champions.
Yildiz, now with eight league goals this campaign—already exceeding his previous seasonal total—demonstrated his clinical finishing by scoring Juventus’ second goal against Napoli, reinforcing his status as one of Serie A’s most vibrant attacking talents.
Manuel Locatelli is also expected to return to the midfield hierarchy following rotation in European competition, while Argentine striker Jonathan David will lead the line in place of the sidelined Vlahovic.
A devastating 4-0 drubbing at home to in-form Atalanta last Saturday typified their defensive fragility and attacking impotence. Before that humiliation, they claimed a goalless draw against Genoa and suffered a 0-0 stalemate at Napoli.
Their solitary recent highlight came with a 2-1 victory over Lecce, though this proved insufficient to arrest their downward trajectory. They are sitting in 15th position in the group table with just 23 points.
Juventus have seemingly found their rhythm under Luciano Spalletti’s coaching stewardship, registering an imperious 3-0 victory at the Allianz Stadium against Napoli on 25 January.
The Bianconeri controlled proceedings from start to finish, limiting the defending champions to just one shot on target whilst dominating possession and creating numerous clear-cut opportunities.
Goals from Jonathan David, Kenan Yildiz, and Filip Kostic secured a comprehensive win that moved Juventus to 42 points and placed them just one point behind Roma in the group table.
