Pau FC plan to stage a The Voice-style talent trial offering an amateur a first professional contract, an initiative led by 28-year-old reserve right back and content creator Valentin Liénard.

The right back said in a post that he will pick 30 subscribers to compete for the deal with the club. Liénard has more than 500,000 YouTube followers and came through Monaco’s academy alongside Kylian Mbappé.

Entries are open to all, reflecting his view that talent can emerge from anywhere. He will shortlist candidates by journey, level, motivation, mentality and story, then the finalists will be tested on the pitch before Pau’s coaching staff, who will make the final call.

One player will earn the contract and, from June, join a Ligue 2 squad rather than returning to amateur football.

The plan could also suit Pau, recently handed a FIFA recruitment ban amid a dispute over the January 2025 signing of striker Mouhamed Diouf.
