Businessman Willie Haughey has confirmed that Celtic icon Paul McStay will take a leading role in the newly formed ‘Season Ticket Alliance’, revealing the news last night on GO Radio…

Haughey – who previously served as a non-executive director at the club – used the broadcast to provide an update on the initiative first outlined in February.

The proposal aims to strengthen supporter influence at boardroom level through a collective investment model.

At the time of the original announcement, Haughey committed to contributing £2 million of his own funds for every 10,000 season ticket holders who join the scheme, with a potential total of £10 million if participation targets are met.

He also hinted then that a prominent former player would represent the project, a role now confirmed to be filled by club legend McStay.

Speaking on GO Radio, Haughey said: “We have been putting things together behind the scenes for what we are going to launch. We are ready to launch it now, and the thing will go live on April 17 when people can apply.”

“I can exclusively reveal tonight that Paul McStay will be the Celtic legend and ambassador who is fronting up the Season Ticket Alliance.”

“I believe that we can set up an alliance as a conduit for discussions with the board. I know other people are trying to do that at the moment, but I believe this will do that, and that is something that will appeal to the season ticket holders.”

Haughey added: “To be honest, in the weeks that I have been working here, there have been no home games, so I have not seen any of the board, but the board are aware that we are doing this.”

“There has been no negativity from the board. But just so we are quite clear, this is arm’s length from the club. This will be exactly as we see it.”
