Although he has never stopped impressing ever since his move to FC Barcelona, the midfielder Pedri has been playing at a particularly high level for the last few years, and has become a truly key part of Hansi Flick’s team.

He continues to showcase his incredible skills with every passing game, and the last UEFA Champions League game against Newcastle United was no different. His performance in this match won him a number of new fans, particularly followers of English football, who do not closely follow the game in Spain.

One such high-profile individual was none other than the Manchester United legend Paul Scholes, who took to social media after that game to declare Pedri as his new favorite player.

Now, as Mundo Deportivo has reported, the Englishman once again named the Canarian as the best midfielder in the world as he talked on this subject in a YouTube podcast named The Good, The Bad, and The Football.

Scholes had no qualms mentioning Pedri as the best midfielder in the world, and went on to identify what makes the Canarian such a good footballer:

“Number 1 is Pedri. When I saw him against Newcastle, I said: Wow! … He is like the combination of Xavi and Iniesta. We’re not just talking about his feet, but above all, his football intelligence. Sometimes he finds himself in difficult situations, and the way he gets out of them with a quick one-two or a shoulder feint is incredible. His technique is brilliant.”

The former Manchester United midfielder highlighted one particular aspect from the match against Newcastle to highlight Pedri’s impact:

“The best part is that when Newcastle scored, there were 8 minutes of stoppage time left. I thought it was going to be exciting… But Pedri had the ball for 7 of those 8 minutes. He took total control of the match. I thought he was brilliant.”

There is no doubt that Pedri has been playing at a very high level for several years now, but it is still refreshing to see him being recognized by the top voices in football.

Hopefully, he will continue to shine for FC Barcelona for years to come and continue providing the fans with displays of his magical football.
