Vangelis Pavlidis is enduring a scoring drought at a critical juncture for Benfica, with his Golden Boot standing under threat.
In the derby against Sporting, the Greek striker started on the bench, Franjo Ivanovic got the nod after praise from Paulo Madeira, and Pavlidis came on but did not score. According to Glorioso 1904, his lean run is beginning to bite on both team output and his place in Europe’s scoring table.
He sits 16th and could be overtaken as soon as the next round if Luis Díaz, Mason Greenwood, Antoine Semenyo or Lamine Yamal find the net again.
Harry Kane leads comfortably, ahead of Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland. For Pavlidis it is a distant picture, though it could still shift if he rediscovers his touch in the run-in.
This season for Benfica, Pavlidis, valued at 32 million euros, has played 50 competitive matches, 30 in Liga Portugal Betclic, 14 in the Champions League, three in the Taça de Portugal, two in the Taça da Liga and one in the Supertaça. Across 4,050 minutes he has 29 goals and five assists.
