Pavon’s Grêmio spell reached 50 matches without a goal in the 1-1 draw with Bragantino in the Brasileirão. Yet his 2026 reinvention at right-back has turned jeers into applause under Luís Castro.

Globo.com reports that Pavon has moved ahead of Marcos Rocha and João Pedro in the right-back pecking order. He has started the past five games, with Castro choosing him to add attacking thrust without losing defensive solidity.

The position is not new to the Argentine, who previously filled the flank under Mano Menezes. This year he first appeared there against São Paulo, coming off the bench to help the team’s balance.

Coaches have long valued his work rate, versatility and tactical discipline, qualities that kept him on the pitch. In 2025 he led Grêmio with 10 assists, but patchy form and a blunt attack left him a target for fans and explain the barren run.

Even so, the Portuguese coach backed him and Pavon has repaired his bond with supporters. With a heavy schedule, Castro will need to rotate and Pavon could be used again on the wing. In a more favourable setting, he has the chance to end the drought on Monday against Chapecoense at Arena Condá.
