FC Barcelona had a fine Sunday afternoon at the Mestalla, as they comprehensively defeated Valencia by a 5-0 scoreline. Hansi Flick’s side are two points clear of second-placed Alaves at the top of La Liga, and they are now the only side in the league to maintain a 100% record.
Lamine Yamal led the way for Barcelona with a brace, as Fermin Lopez, Raphinha and Pedri completely the scoring. The latter netted for the first time this season, and after the match, he spoke in the Mestalla mixed zone (via Sport) to assess the result. He also made it clear that he does not expect the Catalans to struggle for goals this season, despite having no recognised senior striker (aside of Gabriel Jesus).
“I think that after the result you can say that it was easy, but it is not like that. It was a good result and game to continue gaining confidence. People always want to have a 40-goal striker, but we have players like Raphinha, Lamine, Gordon, Adeyemi who can do that job. Goals are not going to be missing this year.”
For the first time this season, Pedri started alongside summer signing Rodri, who made his full debut at the Mestalla. The 23-year-old bit back regarding supposed incompatibility between himself and his Barcelona and Spain teammate, as he made it clear that he expects to keep getting better and better alongside the former Manchester City midfielder.
