Flamengo reached the Libertadores quarter-finals with a 2-1 win over Cruzeiro, powered by standout displays from Pedro and Jorginho. The result sealed qualification after a commanding collective effort.
According to Globo.com, Pedro turned provider for both Flamengo goals. Arrascaeta bent in a fine finish and Samuel Lino struck the winner, sitting William down before firing home, while Lucas Romero scored a screamer for Cruzeiro.
Jorginho drove the midfield, producing a vital sliding challenge to halt a counter and clearing off the line after a rare lapse from Rossi. Erick Pulgar was similarly dominant, repeatedly winning the ball and snuffing out danger in the box.
At the back, Emerson Royal impressed defensively and in attack. Léo Ortiz repelled crosses and surged forward but headed a clear chance off target, while Léo Pereira was below his best, Ayrton Lucas was steady and Varela deputised on the left.
Further forward, Lucas Paquetá missed two presentable chances and later fed Carrascal, who failed to convert before an offside flag. Plata laboured, Bruno Henrique added intensity off the bench and Evertton Araújo helped protect the area late on.
Rossi had little to do with his hands and was blameless for Romero’s thunderous strike. Head coach Leonardo Jardim was vindicated by recalling Pedro to the XI, and his late tweaks re-energised the team.
