The Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proença has congratulated Gonçalo Guedes after Real Sociedad lifted the Copa del Rey, beating Atlético de Madrid on penalties.
The final finished 2-2 after extra time, with Real Sociedad prevailing 4-3 in the shootout. The Portuguese Football Federation said in a post that Proença hailed the triumph and praised the Portugal international for representing the country in a prestigious competition.
Guedes started the final and was directly involved in Real Sociedad’s two goals inside 90 minutes, underlining his impact on the night.
The victory delivered Real Sociedad’s fourth Copa del Rey title, succeeding Barcelona as holders.
For Guedes, it adds to a trophy haul that includes the 2019 Copa del Rey with Valencia and the Nations League with Portugal that same year.
During his time at Benfica he won four league titles, two League Cups, one Portuguese Cup and one Super Cup.
This season for Real Sociedad, Guedes has played 38 matches, 31 in La Liga and seven in the Copa del Rey, totalling 2,318 minutes with nine goals and nine assists, and is valued at €6 million.
