Pedro Ribeiro named UD Oliveirense head coach after Sunderland promotion role under Régis Le Bris | OneFootball

Former Sunderland assistant Pedro Ribeiro has been appointed head coach of UD Oliveirense, who play in Liga Portugal 2. The Portuguese coach worked under Régis Le Bris during Sunderland’s promotion-winning 2024-25 campaign.

The club said in a statement that he brings experience in Portuguese and international football, noting his part in Sunderland’s return to the Premier League and welcoming him to the role.

Ribeiro joined Sunderland in October 2024 as part of Le Bris’ backroom team, focusing on the defensive side. He helped the Black Cats secure promotion before leaving by mutual consent after a summer restructuring of first-team staff.

Aged 40, he began coaching at 19 and previously worked as Vítor Pereira’s assistant at Porto, Al-Ahli, Olympiacos, Fenerbahçe and 1860 Munich.

Ribeiro has also managed in Portugal with Gil Vicente, Belenenses SAD, Penafiel, Académico de Viseu and Leixões. His first senior managerial post came at Gil Vicente in 2018, when he became the youngest coach in Portuguese professional football.
