Servigroup Peñíscola face the prospect of heavy sanctions after a mass brawl erupted at Juan Vizcarro following Tuesday’s match against Noia Portus Apostoli.
The ugly scenes came after the Primera División futsal matchday 18 fixture in Peñíscola, drawing comparisons with the Boadilla v Benicarló melee of 2006, 20 years ago.
The club could be hit with significant fines and even a temporary closure of their court for several games. Outcomes remain uncertain, with the RFEF futsal Single Disciplinary Judge expected to address the case on Thursday.
Peñíscola’s Juanico, seen throwing punches at an opponent, apologised on social media, accepting his conduct was unacceptable and that he must face the consequences. He could receive a suspension of 6 to 12 matches.
Peñíscola condemned the incidents in the strongest terms, opened internal proceedings to clarify responsibilities and, where appropriate, sanction those involved. The club has also instructed its legal team to pursue action against all parties implicated, regardless of affiliation.
Noia said three of their players sustained contusions, confirmed by medical checks at a nearby health centre, after what the club described as an atmosphere of hostility, threats and physical and verbal violence involving rivals and some spectators.
