Proceedings around a divorce have now begun between Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola and his estranged wife Cristina Serra, according to new reports.

It was first reported by various outlets in Spain that the pairing had decided to separate after over 30 years together with follow-up reports confirming that the split was not a result of a third party being involved.

One friend ‘close’ to the Manchester City manager told a British newspaper days later, “I think they’ve grown apart. She left Manchester about five years ago to return to Barcelona. That’s taken its toll.

“He’s a total workaholic and not being involved in their family fashion business together may have affected their relationship too… They’ve parted on friendly terms and I really don’t think there’s someone else involved.”

And now it appears as though their separation is being made official through the relevant legal processes, with the financial element of a divorce not causing any complications between the pair who remain amicable in their acknowledgment of one another.

That is according to a new report from The Sun newspaper, who report that the Manchester City manager and his estranged wife Cristina Serra have now begun divorce proceedings using the same lawyer.

It is detailed that the pair are determined to ‘avoid an ugly court battle’ and the sharing of one legal team indicates that they remain on good terms, and sources are said to have stated that they have already agreed the initial terms of a multi-million pound settlement agreement.

Spanish journalist Lorena Vazquez, who originally broke the story of the pair’s split earlier this year, has revealed, “They want it above all to be friendly for the sake of their children.

“As you can imagine money is not going to be an issue and they have already agreed the initial terms to make sure this separation is the most cordial possible. They have a very good relationship, so much so that the same lawyer is arranging the whole thing.

“The divorce is on the way and is being left in the hands of people with their absolute trust.”

Pep Guardiola has spoke fondly of his wife on various occasions during his tenure as Manchester City manager, often giving her the credit for his respected touchline fashion.

In a press conference back in 2022, Guardiola told reporters, “My wife is so elegant, she helps me a lot [with my fashion]. Before her, I was a disaster. Now I’m elegant thanks to her.

“All good things in my life are created by others; sometimes from my wife, sometimes from the money we have at clubs.”

Neither Pep Guardiola nor Cristina Serra is yet to comment on the matter publicly.
