According to Spanish outlet Sport, Guardiola will take a year-long sabbatical after leaving the club, similar to the one he took after his managerial stint with Barcelona.

He will then seek a job coaching a national team, something he hasn’t done in his career so far.

Guardiola took over as City boss in 2016 and transformed them into the defining force of modern English football within a few years.

He finished his first campaign without a trophy, but his side posted a record 100-point tally on their way to winning the Premier League title the following season.

In 2022-23, City completed a treble of trophies, adding the Champions League to the league title and FA Cup to equal Manchester United’s 1999 feat.

Guardiola’s side later became the first team to win the Premier League four seasons in a row with their triumph in 2023-24.

However, last season was largely a failure by their own standards, as they went trophyless and finished third in the English league.

Guardiola’s City missed out on the Premier League title after Tuesday’s 1-1 draw at Bournemouth, but they have still claimed two domestic trophies this term.
