Pep Guardiola is delighted that Nico O’Reilly has become the latest City player to sign a new contract committing his future to the Club.

The 20-year-old signed a new five-year deal on Friday which will see him remain at the Etihad until 2030.

O’Reilly follows quickly behind Rico Lewis and Ruben Dias who have also signed extensions to remain at City.

And he showed just watch why he has such an exciting future fewer than 24 hours later with a big role in our 5-1 victory over Burnley on Saturday.

“Rico Lewis, now Nico O’Reilly, Savinho is close and in the past Ruben has done it as well,” Guardiola said following the win over the Clarets.

“We want him, so we did the effort that we need to help him stay here longer. I’m really pleased because Nico is growing a lot.

“Since he started playing, I think we have lost just one game in the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace.

“Nico helped us a lot, he improved his aggression, [he’s dangerous] from set-pieces, with the ball and we are really pleased.”

Guardiola also stressed the importance of the depth of squad with his substitutes maintaining our control in the victory over Burnley.

Among those that impressed was another former Academy player with Oscar Bobb looking lively after his introduction.

While it looked like he was on target to many for Maxime Esteve’s second own goal, the boss was delighted that he was in the right place to create uncertainty.

“We need it, we need the guys from the bench,” Guardiola added. “In the first one or two games it was not good.

“The guys that came off the bench like Bernardo, give us what we need in those positions so in those terms, we are really pleased.

“[We are pleased] with the impact from Oscar, always he is good in the small spaces and I don’t know if it was his goal or own goal, but he was there and that’s what counts.”
